How I Got Into Blogging

Blogathon Day 3: How did you get into blogging and how has it changed for you since then?

I remember I first got into making websites when I was around 12. I remember seeing websites made by other people and thinking “I can do that”, and so I did. I created my first site on Geocities and it was then that I fell in love with coding and trying to make my own graphics. Around that age I remember I found this random forum and it was there that I learned about blogging and what I could truly turn my website into. Shortly after being on Geocities for a bit I got a subdomain on someone’s site and eventually opened up my first site, myveracity, net (shown in the image above) and then moved sites over the years. Besides using my own websites I also used Livejournal for the longest time and still have access to my old posts, some of which cause me to cringe haha.

Back then I remember just coming home from school and signing on the computer and just writing about my day. Back then I used to share who I had a crush on and other things I probably shouldn’t have been posting on the internet, but I was young. Over the last 5+ years I just fell out of blogging and the blogging scene and I miss it. Back then I just did it because I enjoyed it, but I found I was overthinking everything I wanted to post. I wanted to make sure it was perfect and didn’t want to just blog for the sake of blogging. This is something I’m hoping to change this year, I want to share things and I want to be able to look back on the things I posted and be so thankful that I have those memories.

For the entire month of January I’m participating in a Blogathon. All posts associated with it can be found under the Blogathon category.

This blogathon challenge looks really awesome!
My story is similar to yours. I started around 13 and fell in love with learning how to code websites. I also have most of my old blog posts saved. Its fun to look back on.
I really like your blog! 🙂

Thank you! It seems a lot of people got into it when they were younger, which is so amazing 😀 I wish I still had some of my old handwritten diaries though, but at least I have my online ones.

Hey, Veronica! I stumbled here from BlogList Me. I saw we have some mutual friends, and I just wanted to say. Trying to network with more bloggers.

I laughed out lout to what you wrote about writing things that were too personal to go on the internet (crushes and whatnot). I did that with Livejournal. I shiver just thinking about those days, haha.

Blogging is such an amazing pastime! In addition to the benefits you mentioned about being able to look back, it’s therapeutic, it strengthens your writing skills, and it helps you process thoughts. I’m glad you enjoy it! I post blog about personal things, too, but like you, I don’t want to ever feel like I’m blogging just for the sake of blogging, so I also post recaps of things. (I’m currently going through the Goosebumps series I read as a kid, looking at it through adult eyes. It’s pretty fun!)

Glad I wasn’t alone lol, my Livejournal was friend’s only so at least I restricted what personal posts people were seeing! I LOVED Goosebumps as a kid (I think most did), so great that you’re reading it as an adult. I’ve watched some of the show as an adult now, the episodes that freaked me out as a child make me laugh now.
