For the last year or so I feel like meal delivery services have sky rocketed and you can’t browse anywhere on the internet without running into an ad or someone talking about their favorite. I’ve been wanting to try one for a while now, but most of the ones I looked into I didn’t really like any of the meals that they offered … until now. Recently I saw an ad for Dinnerly and for the price, I checked it out. Your first box is $30 (includes free shipping for the first one) and 3 meals. What I liked about Dinnerly was that you can see their menu at any time and pick which week(s) you want meals. Here’s how it went. Please also note this is 100% NOT sponsored, I purchased it myself and wanted to write about it. So here we go.
I received my first box on May 7th and UPS delivered it around 1:30pm. Delivery times and such may vary, but I figured I’d share when I got it. I opened the box and noticed a bunch of bags of lots of food. When I took all of those out I found 2 large ice packs and between the were the meats. I had no issues with any of the food that was packaged (although I do wish it was a bit organized, seems like a huge waste of a lot of plastic bags) and I sorted everything by meal myself to keep myself organized for the week. So Monday I decided to cook the first meal!
Meal 1: Beef and Broccoli Noodles with Teriyaki-Peanut Sauce
So with this meal delivery service one perk (which also cuts costs) is that you don’t get recipe cards delivered with the box, they’re just online (which you can of course print). The recipe for this meal was super easy to follow, the only extras I needed was water, little bit of sugar, and salt. This meal was super easy to cook, and the only thing I did differently then what they had listed was I cooked the broccoli a little bit longer than they suggested because I prefer my broccoli to be way more tender.
This meal tasted AMAZING! It says the portions are for 2, but I had so much food leftover that this ended up really being enough meals for 3-4 people (which is fine with me I love leftovers). The recipe was easy to follow and the dish was simple but delicious. I will so be making this dish again either myself, or ordering it again from Dinnerly. This dish was so good, I don’t even think it needed the meat!
My overall rating for this specific meal is
Meal 2: Moo Shu Turkey Tacos with Hoisin Sauce
I was excited to try this meal, but I didn’t eat it. The directions were easy to follow but overall the flavor was just not there for me. I think the dish would have been better with chicken instead of ground turkey. I did, however, like the tortillas and ended up just using those to make my own quesadillas for dinner instead. This is not a meal I would buy again. I have no photos of this because I didn’t eat it …
Overall rating for this specific meal:
Meal 3: Mediterranean Meatball Pitas with Lemon Tahini Sauce
My 3rd and final meal from the box! This meal was also fairly easy to make, just felt like it had a few more steps which is completely fine. The meatballs were AMAZING and tastes great as did the pitas. My only complaint is the sauce, I was not a huge fan of it and as you can see in my final photo my pita has zero sauce. I found it was fine with just the cucumbers and meatballs.
Overall rating for this specific meal:
Overall I was really happy with Dinnerly and the meals provided, even though I had meal I was not a huge fan of. These are meals I probably would have never tried myself, and probably the main one I plan on recreating (probably a lot) is the Beef and Broccoli Noodles with Teriyaki-Peanut Sauce recipe. It was simple, but delicious! I ended up canceling my subscription right after my first box, but I do eventually plan on resubbing at some point and giving it another try. Overall I give it a 3.5/5 stars. The packaging could have been a bit better as could have the recipes, but the recipes I did enjoy were delicious.
